I do think that indeed many people see bit torrent as a way to get illegal software but you point out the many valid uses of the application. As a former network admin I can say that I do have a somewhat tainted view of the application too. As a former member of the bandwidth police I developed my dislike of the app when our monitoring software would pickup someone doing some heavy downloading and sucking up all the available bandwidth. The funny part was that it was always someone in IT hogging all the bandwidth and not a non-IT LAN user.
